Hi!
In case you haven't heard of this, it's an open-standards-based Skype alternative. A friend suggested I have a look. This program not allows calls within its own network, but, one can connect to members of other "ssip" networks. Voicemail and gizmo-to-gizmo calls are free. There are use fees for gizmo->phone connections (like Skype in and Skype out).
I downloaded and installed the application, with no trouble. When creating my new Gismo account, I had to have help putting in the requested "security code". Once I got the account created, I had no trouble logging in. I was, then, able to search for users and populate my "phone book". For setting up the rest of the program's options, I had to make extensive use of the JAWS cursor (I have 6.2).
Those wishing to learn more, and perhaps try the gizmo program, are encouraged to have a look at http://www.gizmoproject.com. What do you think?
Cheers,
- Dave
